John Calipari will lead the youngest team of his coaching career into the 2017-18 season, a roster featuring eight freshmen that will try to improve on last year’s Elite Eight performance. The Wildcats must replace 93 percent of that team’s scoring, 76 percent of the rebound total and 88 percent of its minutes played. As usual, the newcomers are among the finest in the nation. The backcourt duo of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Quade Green is solid, and many NBA eyes will be on forwards Hamidou Diallo and Kevin Knox. The key returning player is sophomore Wenyen Gabriel, who played nearly 18 minutes per game last year. Despite all the roster turnover, the Wildcats are seeking a fourth consecutive SEC title.
