Championship Game: San Diego State 67, Marquette 59

FULLERTON, Calif. – 
Xavier Thames scored a career-high 29 points and San Diego State held off a late rally to beat No. 25 Marquette 67-59 in championship game of the Wooden Legacy. The game was tied at 53 with 3 1/2 minutes remaining, but the Aztecs (5-1) closed with a 14-4 run to knock off their second ranked opponent in two games. Thames, who was named tournament MVP, shot 7 of 16 from the field, including 5 for 6 from three-point range. He also drained six free throws in the finals 40 seconds to secure the win. MORE

FULLERTON, Calif. – Joe McDonald hit a game-tying layup with three seconds remaining to help George Washington avoid a monumental collapse, and the Colonials beat Miami 71-63 in overtime in the opening game of the Wooden Legacy. McDonald’s clutch layup tied the game at 59 after George Washington (5-0) had blown a late double-digit lead, and the Colonials opened the extra period on a 12-2 run to secure the win and extend their best start to a season in four years. FULLERTON, Calif. – After an ugly start on offense this season, Marquette is making strides. Jamil Wilson scored a career-high 24 points and the 25th-ranked Golden Eagles routed tournament host Cal State Fullerton 86-66 in the first round of the Wooden Legacy. Davante Gardner and Jajuan Johnson each had 18 points off the bench for Marquette. The Golden Eagles (4-2) shot 55.7 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from 3-point range (7 of 16), both season highs. MORE

Game 4: Creighton 88, Arizona State 60
FULLERTON, Calif. — Creighton knows how to learn from its mistakes. The Bluejays took an early lead over Arizona State in the championship game of last year’s Las Vegas Invitational, only to watch the Sun Devils creep back into contention. This time, Creighton didn’t give ASU that opportunity. Doug McDermott scored 27 points, Devin Brooks added a season-high 23 and the 20th-ranked Bluejays beat Arizona State 88-60 in the opening round of the Wooden Legacy. MORE

Game 5: Marquette 76, George Washington 60
FULLERTON, Calif. – Davante Gardner scored 20 points and had nine rebounds to lead No. 25 Marquette to a 76-60 victory over George Washington University in the semifinals of the Wooden Legacy. Marquette (5-2) used a 12-2 run early in the first half to build a double-digit lead, and never trailed. The Colonials (5-1) tried to stage a couple of comebacks in the second half but never got any closer than 12 points in the second half. MORE

Game 6: Miami (FL) 48, Cal State Fullerton 46
FULLERTON, Calif. – James Kelly scored 10 points, including his teams’ final three points, as Miami held on 48-46 over Cal State Fullerton on Friday. Kelly’s basket with 2:47 left put Miami up 47-42 and his free throw 2 minutes later extended the lead to 48-44. Steve McClellan‘s basket pulled Cal State Fullerton within two-points with 21 seconds left. Miami missed two free throws in the final 20 seconds but the Titans couldn’t capitalize. MORE

Game 7: San Diego State 86, Creighton 80
FULLERTON, Calif. –
It didn’t look promising for San Diego State when Doug McDermott made his first six shots to help 20th-ranked Creighton build a 12-point lead. The Aztecs got back in the game by ramping up their defensive pressure on the Bluejays’ leading scorer. Xavier Thames scored six of his 26 points in the final 1:18, J.J. O’Brien had 15 points and seven rebounds, and San Diego State overcame 30 points by McDermott to upset Creighton 86-80 Friday night in the second round of the Wooden Legacy at Cal State Fullerton. Game 8: Arizona State 80, College of Charleston 58
FULLERTON, Calif. — Jahii Carson scored 21 points and had 7 assists and Jonathan Gilling added 15 points on five 3-point baskets as Arizona State (7-1) pulled away in the second half for an 80-58 victory over College of Charleston (2-5) in the consolation semifinals of the DirecTV Wooden Legacy. Jordan Bachynski added 16 points and Egor Koulechov had 12 for ASU, which bounced back from a 28-point loss on Thursday to Creighton. Game 9: Miami 60, Arizona State 57
ANAHEIM, Calif. –
Rion Brown slammed home a dunk with 33 seconds remaining in the second half, breaking a tie score and leading the Miami Hurricanes to a 60-57 win over Arizona State Sunday afternoon at Honda Center to claim fifth place in the Wooden Legacy. The Hurricanes (5-3), trailed by 10 points in the first half, and eight points in the second but were done in by a second half in which they shot 31 percent from the floor. Game 10: College of Charleston 61, Cal State Fullerton 48

Game 11: George Washington 60, Creighton 53
ANAHEIM, Calif. –
Kevin Larsen gave George Washington the lead with 1:03 left in the game and the Colonials held off No. 20 Creighton for a 60-53 victory that gave them third place in the Wooden Legacy on Sunday night. The Colonials took advantage of an off night by Doug McDermott, who came in averaging nearly 28 points per game but finished with seven. Ethan Wragge scored 16 and Grant Gibbs had 12 for the Bluejays (5-2). MORE
