Fresno, Saint Mary’s & Washington net opening wins.


Transfers Isaih Moore and Keion Brooks, Jr. joined freshman Aidan Mahaney in leading three Paycom Wooden Legacy participating schools to victory Monday on the first day of regular-season play for the 2022-2023 season.

Mahaney scored 25 points in 26 minutes as a reserve as the 6-3 guard from Campolindo High in northern California led Saint Mary’s to a 78-70 win at home over Oral Roberts.

Moore, Jr., who is playing at his fifth school since his freshman season at the College of Charleston, led Fresno State to a 69-56 victory over cross-town rival Fresno Pacific as the 6-10 graduate student center compiled 19 points and 10 rebounds in his Bulldog debut.

The 6-7 Brooks, who played the last three seasons at Kentucky where he scored 660 points in 80 games for the Wildcats, led Washington to a 69-52 victory over visiting Weber State with a 20-point effort.

Vanderbilt was the only Paycom Wooden Legacy entrant to lose Monday as the ‘Dores dropped a 76-67 decision to Memphis State in Nashville.  Junior Tyrin Lawrence led Vandy with 14 points.

The Paycom Wooden Legacy tips off on November 23 with Fresno State challenging Washington at 6:30 p.m. PT followed by the Saint Mary’s vs. Vanderbilt contest.  The two winning schools play the next night for the title after the 7 p.m. third-place game at the Anaheim Arena in the Anaheim Convention Center in southern California.
