The ESPN Events men’s college basketball tournament will be played in November at Anaheim Convention Center Arena
Fresno State, Saint Mary’s, Vanderbilt and Washington will participate in the 2022 Paycom Wooden Legacy this November at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena. The ESPN Events men’s college basketball tournament will add a fourth team in advance of the 2022-23 season.
- Washington, representing the Pac-12, won the 2014 tournament, defeating UTEP in the championship game. The Huskies finished second in their last appearance in an in-season ESPN Events tournament, the 2019 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic.
- Vanderbilt (Southeastern Conference) is led by former NBA standout and legendary college player Jerry Stackhouse. The team advanced to the championship of the ESPN Events’ 2021 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic this past December and will open against Georgia in the SEC tournament.
- Saint Mary’s (West Coast Conference) is currently ranked 17th in the Associated Press poll with a 25-7 record highlighted by a recent win over then top-ranked Gonzaga. The Gaels competed in the 2008, 2012 and 2017 Paycom Wooden Legacy events, while also winning all three of their games in the 2007, 2008 and 2010 Wooden Classic tournaments.
- Fresno State (Mountain West) is 18-12 this season, returns to the Paycom Wooden Legacy for the first time in four years. The Bulldogs beat Northwestern in a 2018 opening-round game, then lost to Miami (Florida) in the semifinals before defeating Hawai’i to place third in its debut Wooden Legacy appearance.
USC of the Pac-12 won the 2021 Paycom Wooden Legacy, defeating San Diego State 58-43 in the championship. Previous tournament champions include Wake Forest (2008), West Virginia (2009), UNLV (2010), Saint Louis (2011), Cal (2012), San Diego State (2013), Washington (2014), Michigan State (2015), UCLA (2016), Washington State (2017), Seton Hall (2018) and Arizona (2019).
