ESPN Events to Acquire, Operate Miami Beach Bowl
*From the American Conference*
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Miami Beach Bowl, which was founded by the American Athletic Conference and has been owned and operated by the conference since 2014, has been acquired by ESPN Events, a division of ESPN, which owns and operates collegiate sporting events worldwide.
The American will continue its participation in the bowl, playing against quality opponents from the other NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision conferences. Beginning in 2017, the bowl will no longer be played at Marlins Park or in the state of Florida. The new location of the bowl will be announced at a later date.
“We are proud of the postseason opportunities that we have been able to provide to student-athletes through our founding of the Miami Beach Bowl, and we appreciate the relationships that we have built with the Miami Marlins, Marlins Park and the cities of Miami and Miami Beach,” said American Athletic Conference commissioner Mike Aresco. “This transfer makes sense on many levels. We are excited to enhance our overall relationship with ESPN and to continue our affiliation with the bowl.”
