FAQ

What is the NIT Season Tip-Off?

Formed in 1985 as a complement to the postseason National Invitation Tournament, the NIT Season Tip-Off is one of the longest-running early season college basketball tournaments in the nation. After an initial run in Manhattan, the event’s championship round made its way across the East River to Barclays Center starting with the 2015 tournament.

The 2018 NIT Season Tip-Off will include eight participants: four Championship Round teams and four campus-site schools.  Each of the eight schools hosts at least one home game in the two weeks leading up to the championship in Brooklyn.

Where is it played?

In addition to the campus-site contests, the four Championship Round schools (Kansas, Louisville, Marquette, and Tennessee) will travel to Barclays Center in Brooklyn for the semifinals and finals. The 2018 event will take place on Wednesday, November 21 and Friday, November 23.
