Three teams from 2016 AdvoCare Invitational advance to NCAA Sweet 16
Three teams – Gonzaga, Iowa State and Miami – from next season’s eight-team AdvoCare Invitational field have moved on to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. The event, which will be held November 24, 25 and 27, 2016, at the HP Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, will also feature NCAA Tournament participant Seton Hall along with Florida, Indiana State, Quinnipiac and Stanford. Florida plays in the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament on Thursday.
The 2015 version of the AdvoCare Invitational featured a field that later sent all eight teams to the postseason, including six in the NCAA Tournament. Notre Dame remains alive in the Sweet 16. Event champion Xavier, who finished with a 27-5 overall record, earned a No. 2 seed in the East Region and reached the second round as did Iowa and Wichita State. Dayton and Southern California also made the NCAA field, while Alabama and Monmouth played in the NIT.
Entering its 11th season, the AdvoCare Invitational is one of six early-season college basketball tournaments owned and operated by ESPN Events, a division of ESPN. In addition to the early-season tournaments, ESPN Events also manages the Armed Forces Classic, the Champions Classic and the Jimmy V Classic.
