Myrtle Beach Invitational – Tulane 65, Utah 61 Quotes, November 24, 2019
Tulane coach Ron Hunter – “We’re really proud of our guys. I had talked about the last the seven months since I took this job, how were we going to handle adversity? In the past it’s been a struggle at Tulane. We got down eight, missed a dunk and our kids could have folded then. They just kept grinding on the defensive and I thought defensively we were unbelievable today. A lot of guys did a lot of good things and I learned a lot about my team. It’s power-5 win and that’s very important for us. To come back and win two games like we just showed Tulane basketball is back. This is the first time we spent some time together out of New Orleans as a group. We’re kind of learning each other that way, they’ve got to learn their crazy coach, the things he likes, the things he doesn’t like. So many great things, man. I almost gave them two days off, then I had to gather myself for a minute.”
Tulane guard Teshaun Hightower – (On the progress of the team through the weekend): “A lot because we could have folded after the first game, but Coach said it’s a long tournament. We just stayed focus. We’re ready.”
Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak – “We couldn’t get any stops. They had a heck of a performance from (Jordan Walker), he got into the lane, made some plays, dropped it off to their big guy, hit some big shots. Those are finishing game-winning plays. Then we struggled at our end. Momentum got the best of us and it was costly for sure. It was kind of a slugfest. Not to make any excuses for both teams but it was pretty ugly. There weren’t any decisive leads up until we got an eight-point lead. It was a survival-of-the-fittest kind of thing. There was a lot of chicken we left on the bone at different spots. We had 20 turnovers and you can’t win too many games with 20 turnovers.”
