Portland Joins 2023 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic Field

The University of Portland will replace Saint Mary’s in the eight-team field for the 2023 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. The previously announced field also features Georgia Tech, host Hawaiʻi, Nevada, Old Dominion, Temple, TCU and UMass. The 14th edition of the ESPN Events men’s college basketball tournament will be at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu on December 21, 22 and 24 with times to be determined.

This will be the second appearance in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic for the Pilots who last competed in the 2019 event. Led by head coach Shantay Legans, Portland’s 2022 season included a win over Villanova and a near-upset of nationally-ranked Michigan State.

Tickets for the tournament are expected to go on sale in October.
