CONWAY, SC (Nov. 18, 2022) – After scoring only 42 points in their opening-round loss to Charlotte in the Myrtle Beach Invitation, Boise State was on the opposite side of things in Friday’s second round. This time, it was the Broncos turning in a stellar defensive performance, holding Loyola-Chicago to just 32 percent shooting – 26 percent in the second half – in posting a 70-48 victory.
Loyola kept things close into the second half, as Boise (2-2) led by just seven points at 44-37 with 12 minutes left in the game. But the Ramblers (2-2) went cold the rest of the way, at one point missing 12 straight shots from the field. This enabled the Broncos to score 16 consecutive points and build a commanding 60-37 lead.
Chibuzo Agbo paced the Broncos with 24 points (going 5-for-7 from 3-point range) and Tyson Degenhart added 19 points. Phillip Alston led the way for Loyola with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Boise advances to take on Colorado in the tournament’s fifth-place game on Sunday, while Loyola will face Texas A&M for seventh place.
